My very best highschoolfriend in the Netherlands is a big fan of my work and offered to become my Dutch representative.
She wanted to do it for free, but I was thinking about giving her a commission. Just the fact that payed people work harder and to seperate work from friendship.
What kind of contract can I do?
She wants to take my pictures to a local printer and print postcards/posters
- do I pay for the printing and when she sells it, I get 80? %?
-does she pay for the printing and when she sells it I get 20%?
Is that the procentage that is normal?
What procedure that is normal?
Is she doing it as a free-lancer then?

Re: contract
Fri, December 28, 2007 - 8:58 AMI think there are some other questions that still need to be asked.
• What type of promotion and marketing are they planning to do and who will pay for that? Are they going to do shows (in which case there will be booth fees and entry fees). Are they going to do flyers and postcards (more printing costs). Are they going to do a press release? A web site?
• Who are they planning to market your art to? Are they just going to try and get it into coffee shops and cafes or try and find a publisher to make posters or fine art prints? Can they get you a licensing deal or our they planning just to sell it themselves?
• What kind of territory is this person going to have? All of Europe of just the Netherlands? If you were offered a lucrative licensing deal in Germany, would she be entitled to a cut? Even if she didn't directly set it up. Would you trust her to handle all inquires for using your work in Europe?
Getting into any business relationship is tricky. More so when it is a friend. Could you end the business relationship without ending the friendship if you had to? I really think you need to exam this further. -

Re: contract
Sat, December 29, 2007 - 10:13 PMyou can grant her the "license" to use your images for "posters" , "cards" etc/ - in which case, she assumes all cost and pays you a standard 5-10% on all profits. The license contract is usually limited for 3 years, etc. (look up image licensing on the internet) - now if its an agreement between freinds, you still need a contract to protect yourself.....
