Group Shows

What group shows have you participated in and what came from it? What did you do to be accepted into these shows?

I've been in 2 cannable flower shows and met some really nice people. To be in it you just need to show up with your art something like a day in advance if I remember correctly.

I was in the Tom of Finland erotic art show in West Hollywood and sold a very nice 800.00$ wood penis. I contacted TOF and was invited to be there.

My stuff is currently at Dr. Susan Block's Speakeasy Gallery and she tells me a group show is coming up soon. I contacted Dr Suzy, interviewed with her and promoted myself at one of her parties/filmings. No sales yet.

I think group shows are great for grtting your name and work out there. If you do enough people actually start to remember you. I've done Cannibal Flower too and Create:fixate is my favorite of the local LA group shows. Sales? No so much, but good for promo.

I've grown kind of tired of doing group shows-

Here's the ONE reason that I still LIKE it at all:

*This can be a really fun thing to do, too-
Enter in crazy work like you NORMALLY would never show.. don't sign your name on it,
and /or make up a name for the gallery - WHO CARES ?! And then price the work at a hundred to two hundred bucks.
That's awesome.. because it's like selling work under a pen-name... back to the FUN and get rid of that stress involved with "formal" shows.
Definitley go to the opening dressed like a whacko and drink all you can. Enjoy yourself, and go home the next day and get serious again.
